Coffee Backflush Powder (900g)
Espresso Machine Backflush Cleaning Powder
Backflush cleaning powder is an essential maintenance product for espresso machines. During daily coffee preparation, coffee oils, fine coffee particles and residue gradually build up inside the group head, shower screen, portafilter and internal brewing components. If these oils are not removed regularly, they can become rancid, affect the flavour of espresso and reduce the cleanliness and performance of the machine.
This cleaning powder is specially formulated to break down and remove coffee oils and organic coffee residue from areas that normal water flushing cannot clean effectively.
Why Backflushing Is Important
Regular backflushing helps to:
-
Remove accumulated coffee oils from the group head
-
Clean the shower screen and dispersion area
-
Remove residue inside the three-way solenoid valve and brewing pathway
-
Keep portafilters and filter baskets clean
-
Prevent stale or rancid coffee oils from affecting espresso flavour
-
Maintain consistent water flow and extraction
-
Support good hygiene and long-term machine maintenance
Backflush Cleaner vs Descaling Agent
These two cleaning products perform very different jobs and should not be confused.
Backflush Cleaning Powder
Removes coffee oils, fats and organic coffee residue produced during espresso brewing. It is mainly used around the group head, shower screen, portafilter, baskets and backflush system.
Descaling Agent
Removes mineral deposits and limescale caused by minerals in water. Descaling is mainly concerned with the internal water system, such as boilers, thermoblocks, heating elements and water pathways.
In simple terms:
Backflush Cleaner = Removes Coffee Oil
Descaling Agent = Removes Mineral Scale
Using a descaling agent will not properly remove accumulated coffee oils, while backflush cleaning powder is not designed to remove mineral scale. Both forms of maintenance may be necessary depending on the espresso machine and water quality.
Important: Always follow the espresso machine manufacturer's recommended cleaning and descaling procedures, as some machines have specific maintenance requirements.
